Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton was born on the 19th January, 1946 at Locust Ridge Tenn. She lived with 12 other children. The vivid imagination of her mother was a great way to get away from the harsh realities of everyday life. She was writing songs before she could read or write. At the age of 8, she got her first electric guitar. She began singing on an Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. Gold Band Records is a small, independent label. In high school she made herself known to the local community, however her goals were bigger. The day after she graduated in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first album to be charted for the first time on Monument Records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for the show he had syndicated to television. Parton got her first gig in the year 1967 she signed with RCA Records by 1968, and was a part of the Grand Ole Opry. However, it wasn't until 1974 that she decided to leave Wagoner's band because the popularity of her own solo records including Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene exceeded their collective efforts. Following their breakup, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it debuted at the top spot at No. The first time it made it to the top spot was in 1974.
