Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarships and volunteerism in the community. First of all Selmon was born with Lucious and Jessie Selmon on a farm near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the eldest of the nine children they had. Second football he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in country by Outland and Lombardi Awards. In his three years as the team's starter, Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. A third scholarship saw him named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in Education. Lee Roy's fourth service was ten-hours per week as a volunteer in college. Following graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times, he was named an All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. His first job was as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of the most notable young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds as a college player he captained the 1975 team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. His parents, Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
